An initiative by Citizen Awareness Foundation (CAF)
Diwali is a festival of light, hope, happiness and togetherness. Yet, for thousands of children living in economically disadvantaged families, the festival can pass without new clothes, a special gift or the simple joy of receiving something of their own.
This Diwali, Citizen Awareness Foundation (CAF) wants to bring that joy closer to every child we can reach.
Through 5,000 Smiles This Diwali 2026, CAF aims to support 5,000 underprivileged children across one district of West Bengal with a thoughtfully prepared Diwali gift kit. Our goal is to help children feel included, valued and remembered during a festival that celebrates the victory of light over darkness.
We believe that every child deserves moments of happiness, regardless of their family's financial circumstances.
Subject to the final budget, availability and the needs of the children, each gift kit may include:
New clothing or an age-appropriate clothing gift.
Educational essentials such as notebooks, pencils and stationery.
Sweets or suitable packaged festive treats.
Traditional earthen diyas or safe festive items, where appropriate.
The contents will be selected with children's safety, dignity and practical needs in mind. Distribution will be carried out through local coordination and beneficiary identification.
Our proposed fundraising target is ₹25,00,000, based on an estimated overall cost of ₹500 per child, including the planned gift kit and a proportionate contribution towards packing, transportation, distribution and project monitoring.
Every contribution can help us move closer to the goal:
₹500 — helps support one child's Diwali gift kit.
₹1,000 — helps support two children's gift kits.
₹2,500 — helps support five children's gift kits.
₹5,000 — helps support ten children's gift kits.
These are illustrative contribution levels based on the proposed average cost. Actual procurement costs and the final contents of each kit may vary.
For a child, a small gift can mean far more than its price. It can mean feeling remembered, experiencing the excitement of the festival and sharing a moment of happiness with family and friends.
Your donation can help CAF reach children whose families may struggle to afford even basic festive essentials. By coming together as a community, we can turn individual acts of kindness into a meaningful collective effort.
Identify eligible children in coordination with local communities and responsible volunteers.
Finalise the gift-kit contents and obtain cost estimates from suppliers.
Procure and prepare kits according to the funds available.
Organise phased distribution through locally coordinated activities.
Maintain appropriate records of expenditure, procurement and distribution.
Share project updates, photographs obtained with appropriate consent, and a final summary of the funds received and used.
The number of children ultimately reached will depend on the funds raised, actual costs and operational feasibility. If the full target is not achieved, the project will be scaled to the available funds, with the use of donations handled transparently and in accordance with the platform's applicable terms.
CAF is committed to responsible fundraising and the respectful treatment of every child and family. We aim to maintain records of donations received, project expenditure and distribution, and to provide meaningful updates to supporters.
Photographs and stories will be shared responsibly, with appropriate consent and protection of children's privacy. No child should have to sacrifice their dignity to receive assistance.
You do not need to make a large donation to make a difference. Every contribution, every share and every act of kindness can help this initiative reach more children.
Donate. Share. Spread Happiness.
Together, let us work towards a Diwali where more children feel included, cared for and hopeful.
