Bihar is facing a serious flood emergency. As of September 9, 2026, more than 40 lakh people across 14 districts have been affected by flooding. Several major rivers, including the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Budhi Gandak, Punpun and Ghaghra, are flowing above danger levels at multiple locations. Relief and rescue operations are continuing across vulnerable areas.

Behind these numbers are families whose homes, farms and livelihoods have been disrupted. Many people have been forced to move to safer places, while access to food, clean drinking water, healthcare and basic shelter remains a critical concern.
