About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Sports Teacher to work with children in Mulshi's Katkari villages, bringing physical education, fitness, and the joy of sports to communities with limited access to formal coaching. In this role, you'll design and deliver age-appropriate sports training sessions, build confidence in young learners, and use sports as a tool for holistic development—fostering teamwork, discipline, and healthy habits. You will report to our Program Coordinator and work closely with village liaisons and school partners to ensure consistent, inclusive programming. Your days will blend classroom instruction, outdoor training, community engagement, and documentation of student progress.
What you'll do
- Plan and conduct daily sports training sessions for children aged 6–16 across multiple village locations, adapting activities to mixed ability levels
- Teach fundamental skills in athletics, cricket, kabaddi, badminton, and traditional games relevant to the region
- Maintain safe, inclusive training environments with age-appropriate equipment and facilities; conduct basic first aid when needed
- Track and document student participation, progress, and behavioral outcomes using simple monitoring tools
- Engage with parents and village elders to build community support for the sports program and encourage regular attendance
- Collaborate with local school teachers and NGO staff to integrate sports into broader child development goals
- Organize and facilitate inter-village sports events, competitions, and cultural celebrations
- Maintain equipment inventory, report maintenance needs, and ensure responsible use of resources
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or any Bachelor's degree with demonstrated sports background
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching sports, coaching, or organizing youth sports programs in rural or underserved communities
- Fluency in Marathi and conversational Hindi; English literacy an advantage
- Ability to work in remote village settings with basic infrastructure and limited resources
- Strong interpersonal skills and genuine passion for working with children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds
- Willingness to live in or near Mulshi and commit to consistent, long-term engagement with the community
Nice to have
- Experience with traditional Indian games (kabaddi, kho-kho, lezium) or regional sports
- Basic knowledge of nutrition and child development
- Experience organizing community sports events or grassroots tournaments
- Familiarity with Katkari or other tribal communities and their cultural contexts
